Besides University procurement policies, all Institutions of Higher Learning in Mississippi are required to follow the technology procurement policies set by the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS). Recently, ITS changed how Apple equipment should be purchased. In short, rather than following the sole source procurement guidelines, as of July 1, Apple branded products should be purchased from the Apple Express Products List (EPL).
So what does that mean? Fortunately for our departments, we expect minimal impact because our existing Apple procurement procedures mirror the new ITS process. Below is the summary.
For Apple procurements below $100,000, follow these steps:
- Gain access to the Apple Store for Education. When Apple went live with the store, we published instructions for filling out the form to register and gain access.
- Visit the Apple in Education website, created for the State of Mississippi, click on the “Sign in or register for the Apple Online Store” link and log on.
- Create a proposal, following the online instructions.
- Once the Apple equipment quote is returned and the equipment is verified, please proceed with the steps required by University Procurement Services.
For Apple procurements at or above $100,000 for a project, additional ITS steps must be completed. Rather than going into the details, please contact the FTDC at 662-915-7918 or ftdc@olemiss.edu to discuss your project. Departments will need to allow ITS up to 60 days to process this request.
