Public Demonstrations of Learning Management Systems

Posted on: October 13th, 2014 by

The University of Mississippi (UM) has hosted the Blackboard Learn platform since 1998, when the product was named CourseInfo. In April 2014, the Instructional Technology Standing committee (ITSC) was given the task of performing an evaluation of the different Learning Management Systems (LMS) in order to select the LMS platform that will be in place at UM for the next five (5) years.

Over the summer, UM issued a request for information to learn more about the available LMS platforms.  From the vendor responses, the committee has initially invited Blackboard (Learn) and Instructure (Canvas) to the Oxford campus to demonstrate the latest versions of their products. The schedule for these vendor demonstrations is below.

For instructors who use SafeAssign within Blackboard Learn, the competing product used by Instructure Canvas is called Turnitin. As a result, we have invited Turnitin representatives to demonstrate their product, so instructors who rely on plagiarism detection in their courses can review these solutions.

Product Date Meeting Time Location
Canvas Oct 24 9:00 – 10:00 Bondurant 204C
Canvas Oct 24 2:00 – 3:00 Bondurant 204C
Blackboard Oct 29 2:00 – 3:00 Bondurant 204C
Blackboard Oct 29 3:30 – 4:30 Bondurant 204C
Turnitin Nov 7 10:00 – 11:00 Bondurant 204C
Turnitin Nov 7 1:00 – 2:00 Bondurant 204C

We encourage interested faculty, staff and students to attend these sessions. You may provide feedback concerning these products to the ITSC by emailing lmsreview@olemiss.edu.  Thank you for your assistance.
